In
1949, Dorian Williams founded the Pendley Shakespeare
Festival amid the Victorian finery of his magnificent
ancestral home. Almost sixty years later, it remains
our privilege to bring Shakespeare to new audiences
in the grounds of this stunning Manor House.
From
the 5th to the 16th of August, you are invited to join
us for evening performances of two of Shakespeare's
most beloved works: the incomparable Twelfth Night and
the electrifying The Merchant of Venice.
Both
plays promise to provide sumptuous costumes, dynamic
set designs and plenty of laughter. The beautiful grounds
of the Hotel will open at 6pm, so we guarantee time
enough to enjoy a picnic or why not treat yourself to
a pre-show meal in our award-winning restaurant?
Twelfth
Night (5th - 9th August)
Liam Evans-Ford's first production at Pendley, Twelfth
Night, is Shakespeare's classic chaotic comedy. Will
the confusion caused by a severe dose of mistaken identity
be rectified? Will Malvolio, a pompous steward with
ideas above his station, be taken down a peg or two?
And will love reign happily ever after in Illyria?
The
Merchant of Venice (12th - 16th August)
Douglas Dean returns to Pendley to play the enigmatic
Shylock in Artistic Director Sarah Branston's production
of The Merchant of Venice. Romantic comedy sits with
high drama, in this tale of honour, prejudice, money
and love.
